Reading email from home This page will be updated when the complete instructions to read your google hosted email via an imap connection become available. You can access your google email here If you are a continuing student, you may click here to access your emails from prior to the 09/10 academic session. Reading email with webmail The preferred method of reading your email from home is to use the CMS webmail application, details of which can be found by clicking on the following link. Click Here for details on webmail Setting up IMAP clients Alternatively, you can read your mail from home using any IMAP enabled mail client such as Netscape Messenger or Outlook express. The paramaters you will need to provide these applications are listed below: The incoming mail server type is IMAP Note:The POP protocol is no longer supported by the CMS Email Service. Provide your Unix Logon User ID and password. Click Here to learn how to change your password For students The address of the IMAP server is stuimap.cms.gre.ac.uk For staff The address of the IMAP server is staffimap.cms.gre.ac.uk You will then need to provide the name of your ISP's SMTP server as this will be used to send outgoing mail. A popular list of ISP's SMTP servers is avaliable here
Once Netscape 6 has started, goto Tasks -> Mail & Newsgroups to open up the Mail client. If this is the first time you have started the mail client, the account wizard should open which will guide you through creating a new account. ![]() your userid @gre.ac.uk. ![]() ![]() (This is the preferred way of checking your mail) Click on Edit -> Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings Goto Server Settings for the account you have created and select "Use Secure Connection(SSL)" NOTE: Make sure you change the port number to 993. NOT 995 ![]() Enter your name ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here you can select "This server requires a secure connection" making sure that port 993 is listed in the Incoming IMAP box ![]() ![]() |
