2007

Wednesday 28th November: 15:00 Reported slow login times to studb.cms.gre.ac.uk via the commandline an http://stumyadmin.cms.gre.ac.uk have been resolved, for details off this service please follow the URL below:

Monday 23rd April: 11:00am We are currently experiencing a major problem with the CMS email service. We are still working on debugging this problem and apologise for any incovenience caused and will update this page as soon as we have further information.

2006

Wednesday 21st June: 11:00am student.cms.gre.ac.uk has suffered a hard disk failure, and is currently offline.
As a result students will not be able to login to student.cms.gre.ac.uk via ssh, telnet, ftp or http.

Tuesday 13th June: 11:30am student.cms.gre.ac.uk has suffered a hard disk failure, and is currently offline.
As a result students will not be able to login to student.cms.gre.ac.uk via ssh, telnet, ftp or http.
Update 19th June: 4:00pm student.cms.gre.ac.uk is now up and running again

Tuesday 18th April: 10:00am stuimap.cms.gre.ac.uk has suffered a hardware failure, and is currently be looked at, as a result students will not be able to log into http://stumail.cms.gre.ac.uk and read email.
Update 18th April: 11:30am stuimap is now up and running again, there will be a scheduled system maintence later in the week. Details will appear here.

2005

Monday 26th September: 10:25am studb.cms.gre.ac.uk is currently down for system maintenance. Please check back here for updates.
Wednesday 28th September: 12:00pm studb.cms.gre.ac.uk is now available again.

Wednesday 26th January: 18:00 The MySQL database on the host studb is currently unavailable. This is being worked on. No ETA yet. Check back for updates.
Update Thursday 27th Jan: 11:45 MySQL on studb has been restored back to the state it was Wednesday morning. If you are still having problems please contact unixhelp@gre.ac.uk


2004

Wednesday 29th September: 13:30 Due to a power failure in the machine room the following services were temporally unavailable: stuweb, studb, staffweb and staffdb.
Update: 14:00 Power and services have now been fully restored.


Wednesday 2nd June: 10:00 Due to a necessary internal machine room move both staffmail.cms.gre.ac.uk and stumail.cms.gre.ac.uk will be turned off this afternoon at 4pm. They are both expected to be available again by 5pm.

No other service will be affected by this move.


Saturday 20th March: 13:00 The data restored to the recovered system was installed from the last available backup. Unfortunately this means that some students will have suffered some data loss. We apologise for this unfortunate situation. CMS lecturers are aware of the situation; if you are affected by this you should approach your lecturer or supervisor and they will be able to advise you appropriately.


Friday 19th March: 00:55 System has been recovered and full access to services has resumed. Apologies for the prolonged system outage.


Thursday 18th March: 07:40 Further work on recovery of the system failure from Wednesday is continuing.
Update: 12:00 Retores from tape are being performed. It is currently not anticipated to have this work complete until tomorrow morning at the earliest.
Update: 14:30 Restoration work is continuing. Please check back here for regular updates.
Update: 18:30 No new news. Work is still continuing.


Wednesday 17th March: 10:00 Student Unix homeareas are affected again due to the reoccurrence of the disk problem from Tuesday. A more permanent solution is being worked on. Student unix services (stumail, stuweb, student.cms.gre.ac.uk) will be affected as a result.
Update: 15:00 A new system disk has been installed and the system is undergoing configuration work.
Update: 21:00 Further complications have arisen and recovery work is still in progress. Completion of this work is not expected until Thursday now.


Tuesday 16th March: 10:45 Student Unix Homearea server has suffered a system disk failure. Student Unix logins and student email will be affected.
Update: 11:35 The system disk has been restored. Normal service is now resumed.


Wednesday 3rd March: 12:25 Power to stumail and staffmail failed. 12:50 Power and services restored to stumail and staffmail
14:40 Power to stumail and staffmail failed again. 15:00 Power and services restored to stumail and staffmail again

Tuesday 16th Dec: Racks and research systems successfully relocated. All vital systems available again to users.


Friday 12th Dec: Advance Warning:

Sat 13th Dec: In preparation for the machine room move on Tuesday 16th Dec some services will be temporarily unavailable between 1000 hrs and 1300 hours while they are relocated to the new machine room. The services that will be affected are the staff and student imap and webmail services; staff.cms.gre.ac.uk, student.cms.gre.ac.uk, stuweb.cms.gre.ac.uk, staffweb.cms.gre.ac.uk

Unix homeareas for staff, students and research will also be affected. CMS Windows based services (J drive, cms1, teachmat etc) will not be affected. NB: However if you run a mail client from Windows then it might not be able to connect until the mail servers have moved.

Mon 15th Dec 3pm - Wed 17th : A large number of items of CMS unix computer equipment will be relocated into the new machine room. There will be some disruption from Monday 16th afternoon onwards. Work is expected to be complete by the evening of Wed. 17th when normal service will be resumed.

NB: Vital staff and student services will be moved ahead of this move on Sat 13th Dec. Users should be able to use email, webservers as listed under the details for Sat 13th Dec during this period as they will have moved previously.


Monday 1st Dec: 11:11: There was a major power failure to the Greenwich campus on Sunday.

Consequently many services and servers failed.
Power has now been restored and services and systems are being restored. This is expected to take all day.
Please bear with us.
More information will be made available when we have update news.

Update 11:20: Problem logging into student and stu-ftp is been investigated.
"Lecturers have been made aware that this problem will adversely affect students who are trying to upload unix courseworks yesterday and today."
Update 11:45: staffmail and stumail services are now functioning correctly.

Update 13:16: login into student and stu-ftp has been resolved.

Update 18:00: All known issues have now resolved.

Friday 26th Sept: 09:00: There has been a disk failure on one of the staff file servers affecting some staff email. More information will follow.


Friday 5th Sept: 10:45: hardware upgrade to student.cms.gre.ac.uk machine unavailable for 45 mins. Finished 11:30.


Friday 1st Aug: 0900: Complete power failure in Dreadnaught machine room. 1130: Power restored. Restoration of services is continuing. Restoration of services will continue over the weekend.


Tuesday 18th Feb: The disk has now been restored as of 14:40.

Tuesday 18th Feb: There has been a disk failure on one of the staff file servers affecting some staff email.


Sunday 26th Jan: Ongoing issues from 25th Jan. Most systems still affected. Fixed 7pm.

Saturday 25th Jan: Various Greenwich wide network outages that affected access to all CMS system. Networks Team informed.

Monday 20th Jan: Mail delivery problem between approx 17:30-18:30 hours, due to mail server issue at Computing Services. Fixed 18:30.

Saturday 18th Jan: All issues fixed. Normal service resumed as of 17:00 hours.

Friday 17th Jan: Issues still not resolved.

Thursday 16th Jan: Networking issues affecting all services including mail for staff and students.
